Edmonton Exchanger Celebrates 50 Years of Industry Leadership

2025 marks a significant milestone for Edmonton Exchanger (EDEX) as the company celebrates 50 years of industry leadership, innovation, and a steadfast commitment to safety and excellence. Founded in 1975 by Henry Gusse and Egon Lohmeier, Edmonton Exchanger provided field services to refineries and petrochemical plants in Alberta in the 1970s. The company worked out of a small heat exchanger shop, and in the mid-1980s, it built its first fabrication shop to make shells and heads for pressure vessel production. Then Egon Lohmeier exited the company, and Barbara Zerbin and Larry Gusse, Henry’s children, entered the ownership circle at Edmonton Exchanger. With Henry at the helm, Edmonton Exchanger grew quickly for several decades, laying a strong foundation for future success.

Today, EDEX has over 1,000 full-time employees and up to 2,000 seasonal employees during peak operations. It has built a strong workforce dedicated to maintaining its high standards of excellence and reliability. As a family-owned business that promotes a family culture, many employees have spent their entire careers at Edmonton Exchanger. This enables the company to develop and maintain its people, directly correlating to its success.

In 2001, Larry Gusse became president, steering the company to new heights and further solidifying its reputation as an industry leader. In 2021, Edmonton Exchanger underwent a leadership transition, with Tim Gusse formally taking on the role of president and Larry Gusse assuming the position of Chief Executive Officer. Today, ownership of Edmonton Exchanger is held by the third generation. Together, this multi-generational ownership family remains committed to serving their customers and the pressure equipment industry by supporting and leading the Edmonton Exchanger family into the future.
